The "Golden Nacre" fountain pen is a cigar shaped, oversize, clipless ebonite fountain pen, featuring a stunning pattern of colors made of "Raden" (=mother of pearl) and clear urushi with goldpigment. It is a cartridge converter pen with a Nr. 6 two tone nib (Bock). The pen has been covered in layers of black base urushi lacquer (wet sanded with #1000 grid sandpaper after each application and curing). For the next step mother of pearl pieces where applied and cured. The next layers where done with clear urushi and goldpigment, until the pen seemed to be almost brown in color. Once the urushi was completey cured, the pen was wet sanded until the raden became visible and the gilding showed through depending on the thickness of the lacquer. For the finishing fine urushi got applicated on the pen and wiped off with filtering paper. After a final curing period the lacquer was burnished and polished with ever finer polishing paste several times to a glasslike shine. Length of the production process: 4 months.
